Vaporising
Vaporizing, often referred to as 'vaping', entails heating cannabis, hash or cannabis oil to a certain temperature using a vaporizer. Once heated to a specific temperature range the active ingredients are vaporized and collected into a container or directly inhaled through a pipe.
Vaporizing is considered to be different from smoking for two reasons. One, the herbs are not combusted and never form into a smoke. Two, because the herbs are not combusted higher concentrations of the active ingredients can be attained, allowing for more potent doses. For these two reasons vaping is considered as a healthier way of administration compared to smoking.
There are two types of vaporizers, convection and conduction.
Conduction vaporizers are the more common variant of the two and works by heating the herb on a metal plate. These tend to be the more cost effective vaporizers available to patients. A variety of conduction vaporizers exist that include newer, more mobile devices like Vape Pens and other pocket vaporizers.
Convection vaporizers heat the herb with hot air which means that it never makes contact to the heat source. These types of vaporisers can be expensive but tend to be more efficient than convection vaporizers.
