SANCWG and iCannabis to lodge complaint with Human Rights Commission
The South African National Cannabis Working Group and iCannabis are in the process of lodging a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission regarding the availability of medical cannabis in South Africa.
Patients are not receiving adequate access to medical cannabis, contrary to the statements made by the Medicines Control Council, Department of Health, Central Drug Authority and various politicians.
We believe patients are entitled to access medical cannabis as a treatment option for various illnesses and conditions. Patient autonomy and informed consent should be given due regard when a patient decides to pursue cannabis as a treatment option.
Patients, doctors and other interested parties can show their support for the complaint by submitting a form to either SANCWG or iCannabis.
We will be keeping the public abreast of developments as they happen through various channels. The complaint will be formally submitted to the SAHRC on the 15th of December 2014. We will continue to garner support for the cause as the process progresses.
